A Note from the Principal...

Dear Families,
As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, we want to share information about the student placement process. Our goal is to thoughtfully place every student in a classroom where they can learn, grow, and be successful.
If you would like to share input about your child’s learning needs, you may submit a placement request between May 4 and May 15, to your current building principal. Requests received outside of this window will not be considered.
When submitting input, please do not include teacher names. Any requests that include specific teacher names will be discarded. Instead, you are encouraged to describe the type of learning environment or supports that help your child thrive (for example: structure, opportunities for movement, or a quieter work setting).
Please note that submitting a request does not guarantee that it can be honored. While we value family input and take these requests into consideration, final placement decisions are made by the school. Our staff carefully reviews many factors to create balanced classrooms that best support all students.
Thank you for partnering with us as we plan for a successful year ahead.

Sincerely,
Kate Jordan
Principal

Early Pick Up Reminder

Reid students enjoy outdoor time each afternoon from 3:00–3:30 p.m., weather permitting. If you plan to pick up your child early, please avoid arriving during this time. Otherwise, you will need to wait until students return to the building at 3:30 p.m.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a smooth and safe dismissal process.

Watch Dog Information:

While our initial Watch Dog Sign up is closed- you can still email Nicole Hamilton (nhamilton@goodrichschools.org) to see if there are any dates remaining and she will get you added if possible. All steps must still be followed (shirt and completed iChat) before you can officially be a Watch D.O.G.S. for the day!

Reid Elementary is excited to welcome back the Watch D.O.G.S. program this year. This program is designed to provide positive male role models for our students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. Meanwhile, Watch D.O.G.S. provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a greater sense of building safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning and instruction.
ONE sign-up allowed per family.
3 steps must be complete:
1. Choose your date- email Nicole Hamilton (email above)

Caravan Reminders:

IMPORTANT Caravan Information

IMPORTANT:
Please make sure your caravan card is visible and hanging on your rearview mirror before pulling up to pick up your child.

See the map below for guidance.

It is not kind to cut the line in front of others. Please be patient, wait your turn and follow the procedures (just like we teach our students). You SHOULD NOT be creating a tail in line 1, if there is space in line 2 or 3. Fill those lanes first.

Our school bus system is always an option for families that do not want to be involved in the drop-off/pick-up procedures (actually your students will probably get home faster). Please call the bus garage to get your child set up (810-591-3454). Even school of choice kids have bus stop options.

Early office pick-ups are not allowed. If you need to pick up your student early in the office, they will be marked accordingly in the attendance system.

Dropping Off Students: When you are dropping off in the morning, please pay attention and move up when you can. If your child is able to open the car door and get out of the car, they are allowed to (once they are in front of the caravan ladies).

School Hours & Attendance

Reid's school hours are:
Full Day: 8:30am – 3:50pm, Half Day: 8:30am – 12:10pm.
Tardy: Students should be in their classroom ready to learn by 8:30. After 8:35, or if they miss the caravan line or are brought in the office for drop off, they are marked tardy.
Half Day (AM or PM Absence): Arrive after 9:15 or leave before 3:15. Please use the ParentVue app or call the attendance line to report your child’s absence. Parents will receive an automated phone call, text, and email if an absence is not verified to the office by 9:15 am. After receiving these communications, please call the front office or attendance line or the absence will remain unverified.
Excused Medical Absence: In the case that your child missed school because they were under the care of a physician, please turn all doctor’s notes into the office within one week of their return to school. Absences with a medical excuse will not be counted against a student.
